Issues relating to performance, or behaviour can be highly sensitive and tricky matters to discuss with the individual in question. Whether it is a colleague, a senior or a junior member of staff, telling someone that a piece of work is not up to scratch, that their behaviour is having a negative impact on the rest of the team, or they are not meeting the required targets can be a truly difficult challenge. There have been extensive studies as to the impact of leadership on employee performance and engagement. What we do know from these studies is that the perception employees have of the individuals who directly supervise them, has a significant influence on how they feel about their work. More
Over the course of this week, there will be much talk about getting back to ‘normal’. Normal in this context means putting the celebration of Christmas and the New Year, and everything associated with the season, back in its box.

Have you ever experienced an awful feeling descending upon you as Sunday evening is approaching, robbing you of the few remaining hours of free time you should be enjoying with your family, literally dreading the thought of going to bed because you don’t want Monday morning to arrive? Do these words sound familiar “I hate my job but I can’t leave?”

It reflects the thoughts that were going around in my head when I was going through a really unhappy period in my working career and the suggestion of Life-Coaching was put to me. Back then, I was absolutely convinced that there was no point getting help to deal with the way I was feeling when I knew I could not leave my job. I was earning a good salary, I had a senior position and I did not want to start again somewhere new. I had a number of financial commitments that had to be met and the alternative prospect of being at home with my children who were both under five then with no money, as much as I loved them, was not particularly appealing.
We are now well into January and many of our old habits will be slowly returning. Whenever we make a decision to change, the universe will test our commitment and it will not be long before we discover whether our desire for change is authentic. Circumstances and events will always come upon us and reveal to us exactly where we are in the pursuit of our goals. More
